Chief Justice Bryant maintains a collegiate style of governance. The judicial officers of the Court meet annually at least. Judicial officers also participate in a number of committees that develop policies across a range of matters.
Chief Justice’s Policy Advisory Committee
This committee supports the Chief Justice in the administration of the Court and provides strategic advice and policy direction, particularly in relation to legislative, procedural and administrative changes likely to affect the Court and its users.
Rules Committee
This committee considers proposed changes to the Family Law Rules 2004 with a view to improving the efficiency, accessibility and cost effectiveness of the Court for its clients. It also considers relevant, discrete issues as required.
Judicial Development Committee
This committee develops, implements and oversights judicial education in the Court.
Law Reform Committee
This committee considers and comments on proposed legislation and law reforms.
Benchbook Committee
This committee reviews and updates the electronic benchbook, which contains commentary on a range of legal topics and principles encountered in the day-to-day work of the judiciary and the registrars and provides a comprehensive list of orders.
Judicial Remuneration Committee
This committee prepares submissions to annual and other reviews of the Remuneration Tribunal.
Magellan Committee
This committee is responsible for the ongoing development and evaluation of the Magellan program, which deals with cases involving allegations of child sexual or physical abuse.
National Case Management Committee
This committee takes responsibility for case management within the Court.
Property Management Committee
This committee plans and assesses the current and future needs of the Courts in relation to property services such as contracting, refurbishment and construction.
Research and Ethics Committee
This committee considers, monitors and overviews all internal and external research and evaluation proposals for approval. It disseminates research papers/results as necessary.
Costs Committee
This committee considers and advises on costs issues.
Cultural Diversity Committee
This committee is completing the implementation of the Court’s cultural diversity plan. It also provides advice to the Chief Justice and CEO on cultural diversity issues, including the special needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Family Violence Committee
This committee is completing the implementation of the Court’s family violence strategy. It also provides advice to the Chief Justice and CEO on family violence issues.
Information and Communication Technology Committee
This committee aligns the Court’s information technology with the Court’s business.
Superannuation Surcharge Committee
This committee considers and advises on issues associated with the application of the superannuation surcharge to Family Court judges.
