Information and links to assist children whose parents are separating or divorcing
It is not your fault that your parents have separated.
The Family Court decides what it believes is best for you.
This may be different from what you want.
You Have A Right For Your Views To Be Heard!
Your parents may have their own lawyer whose job is to help them get what they want. Usually you won't have your own lawyer, but the judge will still want to know what you think. The court may therefore arrange a lawyer for you who is called a 'child representative'. Their job is to help the judge decide what's best for you.
The lawyer (child representative) is there:
to answer your questions
to listen to your views
to try to get your family to agree
to tell the Family Court what you want
to help the Judge make the best decision for you.
