Programs and partnerships
With implementation of the National Cultural Diversity Plan, many further opportunities have risen for further development of the Court's programs, partnerships and relationships with other agencies, organisations and communities.
- The National Cultural Diversity Committee has joined with the Federal Magistrates Court.
- Local Action plans for each court registry include building partnerships with the local multicultural community and celebrating Harmony Day (21 March) each year.
- The Court and the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs have a Living in Harmony partnership Families and the Law in Australia – The Family Court working together with new and emerging communities.
- The provision of translated information products for individuals who speak little or no English.
- Indigenous information products for clients and staff to meet the needs of Indigenous clients involved in family law proceedings.
The establishment of an Indigenous Working Group who will consider how to manage applications of parenting orders concerning residence, contact and specific issues as a result of traditional and customary adoption practices by Torres Strait Islanders.
