The effects of family violence on children

Children are affected by family violence in many ways, whether the violence is directed at them personally, or they witness family violence directed at other members of their family.

Considerable research has emerged over the past decade confirming the devastating impact family violence has on children’s lives and their physical and emotional development.

The Court considers family violence when making orders about children. See sections 60CC, 60CF and 60CG of the Family Law Act 1975.
