Safety measures

The fundamental principle of the Family Court’s safety measures is that all who attend the Court and work on its premises should be safe.

The Family Law Court's publication 'Do you have fears for your safety when attending court?' provides information about how the Courts can assist with the safety of you and your family when attending court. 

The Court has processes in place to ensure clients are safe when they attend a court event. Safety measures vary in each registry, therefore clients are encouraged to contact their local registry before attending court to obtain full details and make any necessary arrangements.

Measures include:

Each registry has a safety plan to respond to unexpected or spontaneous incidents or emergencies. The public areas in all registries, including the forecourt, are under constant video surveillance.

Clients must tell the Court about family violence orders issued by other courts. This assists the Court to make appropriate orders so that people, and especially children, are not unwittingly exposed to family violence.
