The National Enquiry Centre was established in April 2006 to provide a centralised telephone and email service to clients contacting the Family Court and the Federal Magistrates Court. The National Enquiry Centre answers general and simple case-related enquiries previously answered by registries. This allows registries to focus on face-to-face services and case management. The National Enquiry Centre has proved to be an essential part of the Family Law Courts and a successful approach to client services.
The National Enquiry Centre provides first level user support for the Commonwealth Courts Portal. This role involves registration, guidance and support for users of the portal.
The National Enquiry Centre also has responsibility for the first level of support for the Family Law Courts’ after-hours emergency service. This involves screening enquiries made to the service and referring those requiring action to a registrar.
In 2008–09, the National Enquiry Centre received approximately 415 598 telephone enquiries, 47 977 email enquiries and 4500 divorce certificate requests.
