eFiling commenced on 16 August 2008 and is a feature available through the Commonwealth Courts Portal. eFiling allows you to electronically file applications for divorce and supporting documents with the Court.
eFiling allows interaction with the Court outside normal business hours, improving access and flexibility.
Features of eFiling include:
- available 24 hour a day
- the ability to file at your own convenience
- lodging an application does not require attendance at a registry
- payment of divorce application fee by credit card (note: law firms can enquire about establishing a direct debit arrangement by contacting the court on 1300 352 000)
- the option of selecting a court date to suit your personal circumstances
- the ability to see all documents on your file and view your court hearing date online
- the ability to save your part-completed application and come back to it for up to 30 days, and
- free registration with the Commonwealth Courts Portal so you can eFile your application (note: you still are required to pay a fee for filing a divorce application).
Currently the Portal allows litigants and legal practitioners to eFile divorce and supplementary documents. In the second half of 2010 the Courts will release eFiling of the Initiating Application and Response.
