How do I get on the Register?

1. Determine whether you are eligible for employment in the Australian Public Service by reading the following eligibility conditions: 

  1. Citizenship: Applicants who are not Australian citizens are ineligible for employment as an ongoing or non-ongoing Australian Public Service employee (unless special circumstances exist).
  2. Receipt of redundancy benefit: Applicants who have received a redundancy benefit from an APS agency and are in their severance period are generally ineligible for employment; however exceptions for some non-ongoing positions may apply.
  3. Security check: All new employees to the Court are required to undergo an Australian Federal Police criminal history check. The check assists the Court in determining the suitability of applicants for employment.
  4. Background checks: The Family Court reserves the right to contact applicants past or present employers in order to obtain background information about their suitability for employment.

2. If eligible, email your application to the relevant location for the position you are interested in. Your application must include (mandatory):

  1. Your resume: Detailing previous employment and educational history
  2. Contact details of two of your referees

  • You must update your details and preferences every 6 months to be considered.
