Family Court of Australia Chief Justice Diana Bryant will formally welcome the Court's newest judge, Victoria Bennett, at a swearing-in and ceremonial welcome in Melbourne tomorrow.
Justice Bennett has served as a Federal Magistrate since May 2004, sitting mainly in the Federal Magistrates Court's family law jurisdiction.
Justice Bennett practised as a barrister in Victoria from 1988 until 2004, during which time she regularly appeared in the Family Court at both trial and appellate level and in the Federal Magistrates Court. She was appointed as a Federal Magistrate in 2004.
Chief Justice Bryant said she and other judges in the court looked forward to working with Justice Bennett.
"Justice Bennett's experience and understanding of the law will be of great benefit to the Court and its clients," Chief Justice Bryant said.
Justice Bennett said she was honoured to take up her appointment.
"I feel very privileged about this opportunity to join the Court as it approaches its 30th anniversary," she said.
