Justice Paul Cronin will be formally welcomed to the Family Court Bench during a ceremonial sitting to be held at the Commonwealth Law Courts in Melbourne tomorrow.

Justice Cronin practised as a solicitor in Victoria from 1980 until 1999, when he was called to the Bar. His areas of specialisation are family law and de facto property disputes and he is also an accredited arbitrator and mediator.

In 2005, Justice Cronin was appointed to the Executive of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.

Justice Cronin will take up his appointment on 20 December 2006. He will be based in Melbourne, replacing the Hon Justice Susan Morgan, who retired earlier this year.

“The Family Court will undoubtedly benefit from Justice Cronin’s expertise, knowledge and experience,” said Chief Justice Diana Bryant adding,  “the community will be well served by Justice Cronin, particularly through his longstanding dedication to ensuring children’s interests are properly represented.”

The ceremonial sitting will be held in Court 4A at the Commonwealth Law Courts, 305 William St, Melbourne, Wednesday 20 December, commencing at 9:30 am.

“I welcome Justice Cronin to the Bench of the Court and look forward to working closely with him during his tenure.” said Chief Justice Bryant.

Kevin Andrews MP, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations will be representing the Attorney-General at the ceremonial sitting, which will also be attended by senior members of the judiciary and legal fraternity.
